Project Purpose

We used this project to gain insight into the different features of the Chicagoland area. By analyzing the demographics of the different areas, we looked to see how they reflected on the public school system. This research may be helpful for someone looking into living in the city, especially if they have kids who will attend a public school, as our visualizations and conclusions reflect how schools are impacted by the area they are located in.

Questions We Looked to Answer

  • Where are the public schools located in Chicago?
  • Is there a correlation between safety scores and environment scores?
  • Are schools in areas with higher levels of poverty seen as less safe?
  • How does the racial composition of an area relate to how the school is perceived?
  • Are there more schools in wealthy areas?
  • Do schools in poorer districts perform worse?

Demo Video

This video shows how to properly go through our website and explore the insights we discovered through our data cleansing and visualizations. There are multiple sections in this website, and each one focuses on specific steps of our process. This video helps users gain a deeper understanding of both our insights as well as our process in developing our final product.
